Well I'd never been to the ranch before so I wasn't sure what
exactly to expect and I was kind of nervous about all the other
people that would be there. I thought it was a group hunt kind of
thing.
My dad and I got there late on
Friday night and everybody greeted us then we stood around the camp
fire until midnight just talking. The next morning we got up around
6 and we were ready to go by 7.
There
was 2 guides that took us up to the sheep on quads, and a
photographer who went along to take pictures. We saw a group of
sheep and we stopped and looked, but I decided to keep on looking,
so they took us to another group. There was a big marino in that
group that I wanted to get, so we got off the quads and got closer.
We stood there for about 10 mins and the group started to leave, and
the marino was in the back of the group. But everytime I had a shot,
it would move too close to the other sheep and we'd have to wait all
over again.
One of the guides took the
quad and tried to get the sheep to move in a different direction.
Finally the marino moved and I took the shot. It kind of bucked up
real quick and took off over the hill. The other guide and my dad
and I went to go look for it while the photographer went to go get
his quad. As soon as we crossed the hill we saw it laying there
under a tree, the guide checked it to see if it was dead, and it
was. As soon as the other guide and the photographer got there, we
took some pictures, then the guides gutted and skinned it for us. It
was an awesome hunt and I hope I get to do it again someday!
