Northwest Chapter of Safari Club International Sensory Safari Project
The Northwest Chapter is working to complete the development of a large
interactive permanent exhibit of wildlife in partnership with the Washington State
School for the Blind in Vancouver
Washington. The display will contain more than 30
species of animals with an audio recording of each that will explain where
the animal lives, as well as a description of what they look like. This
exhibit will focus on worldwide game conservation themes as well.
This will allow blind and visually impaired individuals to “see” various
animals through the sense of touch and thereby expand their opportunity to
gain knowledge of a part of the world that has eluded them. In effect, it
will allow a blind child to more fully understand, for instance, what the
"Lion King" really looks like. This exhibit will also be open to and
utilized by the following: other schools for the blind, by public and
private school children, scouting and other youth organizations, and the
general public.
We are very much in need of cash donations to carry through with this costly
project. Donors will be recognized on a permanent basis, on site. If you can
help with a contribution, please make your check payable to SCI – NW and
mail it to our treasurer. JoDean Peters @
