WSSB Day

Sensory Safari

The Sensory Safari provides a distinctive educational experience for both children and adults. It is particularly beneficial for individuals with visual impairments, as it emphasizes tactile and auditory learning. Participants are guided by experienced “safari guides” through various interactive displays featuring donated animal mounts, skins, skulls, and horns. The guides offer detailed explanations of the animals’ habitats and behaviors while attendees engage with the exhibits through touch and sometimes even hug the displays. Experiences may include exploring the Curved and ringed horns of a Sable Antelope, examining the mane of a male Lion, feeling the coarse, thick texture of bear fur, or listening to recorded descriptions of the exhibits. Participants get to experience what even many sighted people have not. Sensory Safaris provides participants with valuable hands-on wildlife education opportunities.
